Harrisburg – Saturday, Dec 11, 2021, nine Robotics of Vermillion (ROV) teams participated in the event in Harrisburg that brought 36 South Dakota VEX IQ teams together. Teams 57069R "Rising Robots " and 57069W "The Wolves" were awarded the event's top awards, the Elementary Division Excellence Award and the Middle School Division Excellence Award.
The big surprise of the day belonged to Team 57069A “The Archers”. They are a first year team of two elementary students, Myles Hough, a third grader from Jolley Elementary and Mason Porter, a fourth grade student from Elkpoint Elementary. Together, they won the Teamwork Challenge event beating out all other Elementary and Middle School division teams. They also tied a Harrisburg team for the Robot Skills Challenge Award, but lost in a tie breaker. With their score of 78, they are currently ranked 108th in the world of 1790 elementary school division teams.
The robotics regular season continues with tournaments in Canton on January 15th, Council Bluffs on January 22nd, the State Championship in Vermillion on February 12th. At least three ROV teams will represent the state of South Dakota at the VEX IQ US Open in Council Bluffs on April 4th-6th. The season concludes at the World Championships on May 8th – May 12th.
