Council Bluffs – With a reduced number of teams and fewer available participants due to the recent upswing in COVID, Robotics of Vermillion (ROV) sent only 6 of our 9 teams to the Junior Jacket Robotics - Pitching In VEX IQ Middle School and Elementary Tournaments on Saturday. After a long day of challenges against 36 other teams from Nebraska and Iowa, ROV teams emerged as the winners bringing home 10 of the 18 available trophies.
In the Elementary School division, Team 57069B, Mechanical Building Brick, won the Excellence Award, the Teamwork Challenge Award, and were crowned as the Robot Skills Champion. Team 57069X, The Mechanical Futbol Beasts, also won the Teamwork Challenge Award. Team 57069R, Rising Robots, won the 2nd Place Teamwork Challenge Award and the Design Award. Team 57069K, The Monkeybots, won the 2nd Place Teamwork Challenge Award.
In the Middle School Division, Team 57069W, The Wolves, dominated the competition by winning all three top awards including the Excellence Award, the Teamwork Challenge Award, and the Robot Skills Championship Award.
The teams will conclude the regular season at the SD State Championship held February 12th at the MUC on USD. Additionally, three teams are already registered for the 2022 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship in Council Bluffs in early April. Three more ROV teams have also qualified for this tournament and are awaiting invitations. Finally, the robotics season will conclude in May at the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championships.
